The first Discovery for Women Rally for the year 2017, held on Sunday 5th March, 2017. The gathering of over 2000 women kicked-off with an electrifying praise worship from the Grace Levites, this set the tone for the day. The session was followed by testimonies of God’s faithfulness in the lives of His daughters. The testimonies varied from deliverance from death through road accident and child delivery, supernatural provision and victory over different kinds of delays.
Guest music minister, Monique, was then invited to the stage and she began her ministration with the popular and soulful track “Fi agbararehan- (Reveal Your power)” followed by pure worship session.
Pastor Nomthi Odukoya thereafter took the stage and gave a word of exhortation by admonishing congregants never to give up on any word received from God. She gave the illustration of coal miners in Southern Africa, who still go back to coal mining despite series of mining disasters and underground explosions, “they did not give up”, she said.
She enjoined the women never to give up on the word of God irrespective of the situation. She then led the Discovery anthem which ushered in the President of Discovery For Women, Pastor Taiwo Odukoya.
Pastor Taiwo speaking on the theme for the rally “A New Song”, made reference to the Psalmist in Ps 40:1-3. He explained that the psalmist was a man in tears and in waiting in this passage, but when God answered him, it was with a new song; this new song was in praise to God.
The man of God noted that the phrase “New Song” was mentioned nine times in the Bible - six times in the Old Testament and thrice in the Book of Revelations. He subsequently drew his text from Psalm 126:1-3, and explained that a new song is always like a dream, it brings laughter, it’s indicative of deliverance, restoration, and the miraculous. He emphasised that when God puts a new song in a man’s mouth, it will be so obvious that even the heathen will recognise what God has done. He noted however that we as God’s children have to play our roles by remaining focused on Him and also to move at His own pace. He enjoined the congregants to disallow all forms of distractions such as anger or offenses. He referred the women to the story of Hannah, who was daily tormented by her mate but rather than being offended, she took her case to God and she sang a new song at the end with the birth of Samuel.
Pastor Taiwo also drew from the story of Paul and Silas in Acts 16:25 where they sang so loud that the entire prison heard their voices and God moved on their behalf, as every chain was broken and every door opened. He encouraged the women not to wallow in self-pity and take from the example of these apostles who rather than wallowing in self-pity, they sang to God and it brought about their deliverance. This according to him goes to show that everywhere new songs break out, there are miracles as noted in Col 3:16.
Pastor Taiwo closed his message with Ephesians 5:18-19 and admonished the women to constantly be filled with the Spirit making melody to God in their hearts.
The rally was ended with another round of worship led by the Grace Levites and personal ministrations by the Pastors.
